I have fought a auger for the last time. There has got to be a way to make a stand a jack something.
It is a major bear fight to get mine hooked up to a tractor. I have had it with all the flopping around.
What if anything have yall done to solve this or have you. Cause with my back I have either got to get a bigger switch or a smaller bear.

I welded a single chain link to mine at the top of the curve. Then I have a truss that has a length of chain at the right length in the barn/ machine shed. I back under it, take the tension off and unhook.
Opposite to hook up. Keeps the whole rig from flopping around

Both good idea's keep them coming. Mine is a heavy duty son of a gun made out of a model T rear end.

You can bet your ass this is getting resolved this week.

It might take me a few day's I will post a picture of the beast.
Haveing nerve block shot's tomorrow morning in my low back so I most likely won't get back from the hospital till noon.
Then I will need extensive therapy to recover from the ride home from Beaumont with the Mrs' driving.
Most likely the Impala will have a large hole stomped on the passenger side while I am trying to find the imaginary brake as I am screaming in shear terror.

Why not scrounge up some 8" steel pipe and set this in the ground then you can set the auger in it and as you set it down get a piece of steel and weld this at an angle with a c - collar on it so it frame can sit on that. You could fill the bottom of the pipe with concrete and burn a few holes in it so auger wouldn't rust up bad like they do when they are in the dirt. Then you could paint it blue and you'd be set.

switch to a post driver. not the cheapest alternative but it sure is the best one. new drivers will put posts in solidly and straight and more stable than a tamped one. The farm where my son is manager just got a new good one and he can fence me in while I am setting one corner post. he has miles of old fence that is no longer a barrier to cattle and he is replacing it all single handedly.

I saw some a few weeks ago and it looks good. He told me he could not do it without the post driver.

At one time there was close to that many here so you could almost do that . Left the big Massey hooked up to the hay cutter, Ford to the baler, and the Massey 135 for everything else. Also had a little Kubota DT 245 that thing was as handy as shirt pockets.

I back up to an existing pipe brace or corner and set down the auger. Get out and wire it or chain it to the post before disconnecting.

Take the PTO shaft and tie wire it to the fence to keep it out of the dirt. Keep it slightly vertical so that water does not go down the female side of the shaft. Squirt a little oil on it from time to time when you think about it. That's my grandson's job now. Give him a can of WD40 and he's got purpose. Wants to oil everything in sight.

I was serious about switching to a driver....

sell that piece of fill in the blank and put the money towards a driver.

the nrcs fencing standards have changed here this year and the specs call for fence post to be driven.
can also use foating braces now if the brace materials meet specs.

I have not seen the new one my son is using but he is driving corner posts and everything with his.

I will try to find out the brand and get a photo.
