No idea why God didn't put teats on cows' knees. My calves suck the hair off their dams' knees before they ever get to a real teat . . . IF they ever get to a real teat.

I think on the brisket would be another great place for teats!

Nothing more frustrating than watching a calf try and find them! One reason I like my docile cows, I just go and "connect" them and be done with it, no fuss no muss and I can get back to doing something else and don't have to keep second guessing myself if the calf has had a drink... Like this

I've got a calf I took away from its mother at two days old... mum is built like a milkbar, teats sticking out to the side the calf was enjoying just going round browsing on them all.
She likes her bottle the natural way. Sticking your fingers in her mouth to lead her to the teat doesn't work - she knows fingers aren't teats. Waving the bottle over the door at her doesn't work - she recognises that I bring food but doesn't appear to notice that the bottle contains it.
Grip the bottle between your knees with the teat pointing rearwards and she's onto it in about two seconds.

Agree with that. Calf always seems to start there anyway with the momma tryin her best to get it pushed back aft to where the fountains are. Seen them too, get started 1st time back in the right place and next time they get hungry, they're trying to find a teat twixt the wrong pair of legs.

TT, that was my old girl Rosie, that was her 14th calf Cenci... she knew how things worked.

GB, older cows will try to get the calf to go to the right place, but first timers not so much.. and if you have a dumb cow and a dumb calf, lord help you, at least one of them needs a brain.
