I put a new battery in my 2004 E350 Ford van W/V10 and now it runs like crap. The van ran perfectly before we changed the battery now it wants to stall and just runs poorly. I checked all around and am sure we did not bump anything or knock a Vac. hose off. Does the computer have to "re-learn" after the battery has been disconnected? Thanks for any help. Joe

There is a relearning process. Has it been driven yet? If not drive it for a few miles. Generally changing a battery does not cause a problem. Is the service engine soon light on? Might be a coincidence, coil packs are common on those.

I think you should check your Altinator, If it is not producing replace it.

Found out what was wrong. The mechanic said that when we installed the new battery the computer set all of the codes back to factory default. The van has 120K miles on it, he said that due to the miles there was a fair amount of carbon buildup in the throttle body and injectors. The factory settings were not able to adjust the fuel air mixture so it ran like crap. He cleaned up both and ran it for about 20 miles and now it runs like a scalded dog.

yep, had to relearn, although I'm supprised to hear that complaint on a vehicle that new.

My 1983 Trans Am has that issue. Disconnect the battery (which I do regularly) and you just about have to run a whole tank of gasoline through the engine before the car starts to preform properly.
