Im not totally sure how to ask what im wondering, but heres a stab at it..

ENVIORNMENTAL CONDITIONS EQUAL******

Pure bred calves vs an f1 cross calves, vs f2.. and lower quality genes... , i assume as with all other animals a pure bred would yeild higher earnings per head as to selling?

AT AUCTION, do pure breds not get recognized and just sell as any other cow?, or does an auction inform buyers that it is pure bred with papers? (Im betting on them sold as any other cow) just wondering...

If i have a pure bred cow and a pure bred bull... i get a calf... an F1 (first cross breed?) Does the f1 calf that has the better genes sell better at auction than a calf that comes from lower quality gene pool .... (GIVEN EQUAL ENVIORNEMTAL CONDITIONS)

If yes, that answers my question, if no, where does the pure bred fit into the market to make money other than stock show calves....

hope im making since here...

As with any other animal, registration only means something to someone buying an animal for purebred breeding purposes, with the exception that many commercial breeders want purebred bulls. If you’re selling beef at the sale barn, papers mean squat. I think in general, an F1 cross at the sale barn will make you more money simply based on more pounds (heterosis). Other than special feeder sales, no information is given for the animals going through the ring (around here), buyers simply bid based on what they see in those 10 seconds.
The purebred breeder sells predominately private treaty, either bulls or cows/heifers to other breeders or commercial operations. To simply sell calves through the sale barn, registered cattle wouldn’t make much sense.

That answers my question... i dont care to have regestered cattle anyway. Thats forbthe birds in my case. Looking around though it didnt seem like there was any price difference in pure bred vs a cross... so if that was the case id want pure bred just to hone in on the kind of calves i wanna get out of em...

Have you ever heard of hetrosis?

Yes, i understand it somewhat... breeding for enhanced qualities or charictaristics. So if you pitch hetrosis to me like you did im understanding i should breed for what i want to sell, breed for what gives me the best genes for beef cows of the type i choose to use..

Am i in the ball park?

If you are breeding just to take your calves to the sale barn then go with crossbred cows like F1 tigers or Brangus then use a purebred bull like Char or Hereford. I breed registered Beefmaster I use to run crossbreds trust me there is a huge difference in price. I can buy good young Brangus cows for $2300 each at a sale I was at a few weeks back good registered bred Beefmaster heifers sold for as high as $6100.

at the auctions in my area they will announce a registered cow and hand out the papers if the seller request. But you most of the papers end up in the trash can by the door.(excluding the special replacement type sales to answer your question at the average commercial cattle type sales no there's no value in registered cattle. Now for Pete's sakes I'm not trying to insult anyone who raises registered cattle there is a place, a need, and a arena to market both

No!

you do NOT want in the reg game.but for your cows you will want the best reg bulls you can afford.i had to sell an injured bull this week.and when i looked out by the corral i seen so big dollar sighs.2 reg cows that if i had to replace would cost me $8000 to $10,000.not counting the bull i had to replace.

Good Lord..someone get me some oxygen..........yes Bigbull you are correct!

3way ive always known what i was doing messing with cattle.if your not willing to pay then reg isnt for every1.i ran into my buddy thurs and he told me he bought 2 sets of 5 embroyos .he told me ill have you a bull calf next spring.i told him i wanted the raising cain bull calf.he said you got it.we was thinking about buying a bull togather but had to put that on hold.

Good luck BigBull the price of good reg Beefmaster bulls has shot up. Went to the sale up in Ok. and let just say I am glad I got mine last year. I was looking at the catalog for Crockett and some nice bulls on paper. Or you could go to Salado to SWB and T5's sale I bet those would only cost you an arm and leg.

Slaughter price has sent bulls to the moon and why not with them bringing a 1.42 for hamburger at Crockett.
Got to pay to play I like getting 1500 bucks or better on 4 wts as well. A good seedstock producer has invested
a lot of time and money into them. They dang sure are not going to give them to you at barn prices.
Trich laws drove the prices up as well the guy that used to buy your or my bull through the barn when we were through
and would use him a year or two.
Is now having to get in line with all the rest of us.

And that part stinks Caustic Burno. Lots of good proven bulls go to hamburger and that's a real shame. I'm selling or trading my bulls if I can find a taker. Unless he goes crazy.

Bull prices is one of the reasons the neighbor and I share a bull now.
With us both downsizing due to health reasons there is no way to justify what they are bringing today
in the small operation. Other than I want one sure will take him a long time to pay out.
My rule of thumb used to be sell three calves and buy a new bull the ruler has grown I now say four to five.

I figured out what im going to do.. thanks for the help.. no pure bred cows for sure.
If you oversimplify the concept of heterosis to the point where you conclude that all pure breds are bad and all cross breds are good, I think that you're in for a rude awakening. Heterosis is a wonderful thing (and, no, you don't yet seem to grasp the concept fully), but if not managed knowledgeably, you can soon end up with a bunch of animals which are worth less than others, pure or cross.
