Protein requirements for beef cattle.

I need to know what protein amounts are required for beef cattle when they are calves, yearlings and at breeding age. We're feeding straight lentil bales now with oats but everything I've read about lentils says protein levels can be as high as 29%. I'd appreciate any advice since I know zero about beef cattle.
