At my place we ride a lot of colts, they need more jobs then I have to give them. I could buy a squeeze chute and do all my processing afoot, but I like the ability to take my time, gain experience on my horses, and have no complex alley, tub and chute system to pay for. Usually I only buy 10 calves or less at a time. Approximately 5 minutes per calf the way I do it.

We stretch em in a necessity. Got a calf with a sore foot now. I'll get pics if I can.

Here a lot of cattle get roped and stretched. Virtually all the calves at branding time. Bigger cattle, both yearlings and mature cows on pasture and range land are often miles from the nearest chute. Even mature bulls at times. However everyone does have a squeeze chute and when cows are at or near the corral they go through the chute.

Lots of guys here still work calves on horseback. Helps the horses out is main reason.
