I have a Cow that had a calf on Saturday. Last night I noticed her udders's left front quarter was swollen with a big knot in it. Probably mastitis I would think. What medication or remedy do you guys and ladies normally adhere to in this situation? I really hated seeing this, because I was hoping to get a heifer or two off this particular Lim/angus before she went to the market. The calf incidentally, is a bull, soon to be a steer.

What did you find out? We have a first calf heifer, 3 year old, (aborted last dear due to vaccination with MLV) that calved Saturday. Both rear quarters look large and hard, but if I watch her long enough, her calf will come up and nurse it down a bunch. She still has some swelling, but I am blaming it on edema. Could it be the calf is just not nursing on that quarter enough?
Just wondering...
