We get some pretty spectacular sunsets here. This one stretched clear across the sky. I couldn't get it all in one picture.

Here we got mountains ..but I remember watching the sunset in LA once,it looked like it was sinking in the ground...

"Seems" is correct. An illusion because when 'the sun approaches' the horizon, our eyes see both the sun and the horizon, and the horizon becomes a point of reference. There is also the matter of a flatter angle of vision, but it's mostly just because we have a reference point.

The sunset/sunrise green flash tho, is real.
