We're pretty happy right now. Our vet's daughter got Reserve Champion in Showmanship yesterday. :D
She didn't place in the market beef, but she was sure proud of her Hereford steer.
There were some pretty good steers there and there were some pretty bad tempered ones. I noticed that all of the really nasty tempered ones had the same brand.
She's going to let us know what the carcuss info is.
 
i bet she was walking on air when she won the showmanship class.an i know yall are happy for her as well.

Got some pics, but they are on a film camera, still haven't gotten a digital yet.
There was one poor guy who couldn't even bring his steer to the fair because of it's temperment, couldn't resist, told him we had some pretty calm cattle and to come look at them, even though they are Herefords. :lol2:
The only trouble she had with her steer, is he would be standing in the shade and not want to move into the sun in the show ring. :lol2:
Tomorrow is the sale and I know she is going to be pretty choked up. :(
Just going to stand by her and support her.

LOL so he is smart as well as a looker ,that is hard to come by in a fella.. :lol2:

I thought he was one of yours, I am very happy for you that she did so well with him.
How many Herfs. were in the show, and was he the only one to place ?
 
This is a little funny. There was another purebred Hereford there and a cross bred Hereford. The purebred was bought in Kansas, but didn't make weight. The cross bred won the Grand Champion in Showmanship.
Her steer finished out at 1235# and sold for $1.25 a pound. He should have finished out in more weight, but they had run out of feed. :(
Found out she has been hit up by 3 other different breeders wanting her to raise one of their steers. :lol2:
She has been offered first pick at market value here again. We think she is going to take us up on it. She sure loves our Herefords.
Got some better steers this year.

Rather touching moment today. There was a 4-H belt buckle for any 4-H member, not a senior, who shows the most promise. It was in memory of my friend who died last year. Our vets daughter won it. :clap: There were not alot of dry eyes.

It was really great watching this girl work with this steer. Taking him to water 3 or 4 times a day. Cooling him down each time she took him out for a drink. She even washed the white on him with blueing.
no wonder everyone wants her to raise a steer. :lol2:
 
not putting any1 down on the price the steer brought.but at our local 4Han FFA show an sale steers brings from $2 a lb to $3.50 a lb.the local people really support the kids in buying their market steers broilers an dairy heifers.
 
bigbull the highest was $2.90 a pound for the Grand Champion at 1285 pounds. Reserve brought $2.25 at 1360 pounds.
lowest price was $1.10 at 1160 pounds.

There were not as many buyers there this year as there has been in the past.

Here's a picture of the steer. I should of gotten through the fence, but there were some problems with some of the steers acting up.
 
HD we got a few better looking ones out in the pasture right now. She and her dad came out and took a look. They found 3 steers that they really liked and she just was going nuts looking at our heifers. :D
The offer of steers for her is now up to 6 different breeders. She is going to look around, but we are pretty sure that she will come back. We don't charge a premiun for our steers, like some others do.

Got our half of that steer today. Half weighted 333#. Not too bad. Can't find the film for my camera or I would have taken a picture of those T-bones I cooked up tonight. :D
