Preg checked the cows yesterday and the only one open was the one I already knew about.

The really good news is that I believe most of them are safe to the AI.

The one that was open is a fall of 2010 first calver who calved on Oct 30th and then was held over to turn her into a spring calver. She was in great shape when I AI'd her first week in April and turned her out 2 weeks later. She was exposed to my Angus bull until Aug 1 then to another Angus bull and 2 yearling Herf bulls until Oct 1st.
She was still bullin 2 weeks ago. The gal who pregged her for me said her uterus didn't feel abnormal but did feel kind of large for her age!

It is quite a relief isn't it? Every year I fret over it until I get confirmation.

Another 2 weeks before we pull the bull and test 45 later. No bulling the last 3 weeks so im pretty confident

That would be the point where hay hits $300 a ton! and the open cow(who has no guarantee that she will EVER breed again) is going to eat about 1.5 tons of it between now and green grass!
I fed a cow a full year after she sluffed a calf in Feb but only because I had a $2000 investment in her and I felt like it may not have been her fault and she had already produced an AI bull. But that was when hay was $100 a ton, and I was feeling generous!
