Is there much risk if a short, say 3-4 weeks, bred cow is preg checked?
I wondered if they are only a couple weeks bred that you would risk making them lose the calf.

Don;t know the statistics but we've had some that came up open but when we checked them a month later (witiout having been back in with the bull they were safe in calf. But that doesn;t happen often because we usually pull the bull a month and half or 2 before we preg

Our vet said there was always that risk. I believe that 2nd stage is considered safe - correct me if I'm mistaken. Even moving them in a trailor can possible be detremental to pregnancy.

You have to bear in mind that implantation hasn;t even taken place yet at that stage. Palpating them would probably be no more risk then just getting them real excited or nervous. At stage palpating isnl;t going to tell you if they are bred or not anyway.

I routinely have mine checked at 30-32 days. Haven't had problems yet. A vet has to have an ultrasound to detect a calf below that stage though.
