Getting ready to service all the tractors.

I realize wix is now owned by another company and quality has dipped. Same for Napa filters.

Been looking at Wix-XP as well as Baldwin and Fleetgard.

Talking hydro, oil, fuel, and coolant filters.

What do yall run? Can get wix on rockauto for around $10 per filter. Gonna be hard to beat that.

I usually run Rotella oil. Any reason to use something else?

I like Wix's cross reference the best, and I can most generally get about any filter same or next day through Oreilly's, that is usually what I go with.

Our local farm supply does carry some Donaldson filters for the more common Cummins/JD engines, I will use them for some things as well.

I will always be of the opinion that it's not so much what brand of oil/filter that you use, just that you change it when you're supposed to. It's all tested and required to meet minimum specs.

We had this discussion the other night at work. Seems Wix was bought out and NAPA was made by Wix. Apparently Wix filters have gone way downhill since the buyout. The discussion was started because I unknowingly paid around $80 for a Kubota brand filter, the Wix equivalent was $20. One of the guys said he didn't want to pay dealer price for a Cummins fuel filter and went through two Wix and 1 NAPA before finding a fuel filter that would work. I'd think Fleet Guard would be good but who knows these days.

You can get Delco on Rockauto. I bet you can get Motorcraft too.

I hadn't heard Wix had been bought out. That can't be good. The bean counters will be having a field day and quality will drop.

I used to run Wix in just about everything.

Was talking with my NH dealer one day and the price on OEM filters was equal or in some cases less than Wix. Majority of my iron is blue I run. NH filters in all that.

Cat dealer offers a good filter sale in the spring so pretty much all the other equipment can cross over to Cat filters so that's what I run.

Gehl skid steers each have a filter that is OEM only so no choice on those.

OEM filters for my Kubota are cheaper or very close to most other brands. Watch some of the utube videos that messicks puts on Kubota filters. I am not sure on other makes but would guess its close to the same. Call them and ask for what you need. They give some better deals over the phone at times.

They are not all the same. If you cut them open and look at the construction and filtering media, some filters are definitely better.

I am not going to comment on which is best now, but until I saw this thread I always used Wix or Nappa.

I've been using Wix or Napa Gold (same part number as Wix minus the "5" in most cases) for most every vehicle application for quite a while. I use Baldwin filters for just about everything off-road. I made a chart to hang in my filter cabinet in the shop with every machine and part number for such, and maintain at least a 2 year inventory on them. Restock it every year when Shoup has their Farm Show sale in February.

Most of our tractors are either Ford or NH, and I used to buy the filters from the local dealer for them. Problem is NH likes to change the filter numbers every X amount of years and I kept getting the wrong filters from the dealer. Crossed everything over to Baldwin and problem solved, plus it eliminates two trips to town - first to pick up a filter and second to return it for the correct one.

I started cross referencing my equipment filters to Baldwin filters and ordering them from Grainger, get them next day have all the ones I needed so far.

For trucks I just get Motorcraft from Rock Auto or Walmart in person, there are a lot of counterfeits out there on Amazon and the like these days for filters.

The counterfeit thing is crazy. How the hell do you know if anything is legit? Even the supposedly responsible retailers get sucked in.

It is crazy, I've stuck with Rock Auto and Walmart for the most part and had good luck, but I've been burned by Amazon sellers before too.

Was the correct box wrapped in a plastic wrap, but had different fleetguard filters put in it.

I use ORiley auto in town. Been using Wix for a few years now.

Just when you get comfortable with a product, no matter the product,....... it either changes or discontinued.

Where do I go from here?

Wix has been owned by MANN+HUMMEL since 2016, before that DANA, I think.
MANN+HUMMEL is not a bad/cheap filter, but they do make some economy filters under different names.
Wix/MANN+HUMMEL also make many OEM filters,

BTW, I know for a fact that some CNH OEM filters were made by Wix.

Worth nothing that just because they are made by Wix does not always mean they are the same as ones sold under the Wix name.

Lots of manufactures make parts that are sold under other names that are built to different specs.

(y)That's true. But I still think overall Wix is a good filter, but some Wix are made in Thailand, Vietnam, China and other SH country's.

Most of our tractors are jd and thats what they wear. Just something i have alaways done. All the random stuff gets wix from local parts store they have sale every spring. Some times if a truck is at a shop. I will have them change if close. Both shops say stop putting wix filters on your stuff.
