The preacher's wife was pregnant with their first child so the preacher went to the congregation and asked for a raise. It was decided that every time the preacher's family expanded, so would his salary.
Six kids later, the congregation is getting concerned because the preacher's family is costing way too much money. They had a big meeting about it and there was a lot of bickering and shouting.
Finally, the preacher said, "Children are a gift from God".
To which an old lady in the back of the church piped in for the first time, and in her shaky, quiet voice said, "Rain is a gift from God, too. But when there is too much rain, we wear rubbers".
