Well, I got my seed drilled yesterday, and it was a blessing! Originally, the guy we hire to drill said I had at least a 30 day wait because he had to get his seed in first (wheat), and we needed some rain before he could start. I talked with the extension at our annual field day, and decided I would just rent the 7 foot Haybuster drill and do it myself. Called the guy that rents them out, and he said it would be at least a week, likely the 19th before I would get it.
So, we had the pasture baled, and waited for some rain (we are dry dry dry!). Long range forecast called for a good chance of rain late last week, so I bought the seed hoping to get the drill the 19th to put it in. After talking with the extension, I decided to put some Nitrogen down right before the rain, to give the seed a boost when it gets in. So the nitrogen went down Saturday, about 20 minutes before we received a really good rain (over an inch!). So, now to wait until Monday (today) to put the seed in. I was going to call the guy that runs the county drills Sunday night just to confirm it all...
Well, the guy that usually drills for me called me Saturday night, and asked me if I have purchased my seed yet (Persist Orchard, Marshall Rye, and Landino Clover for a small field that has no clover). Why yes I do, why? Well, seems his wheat seed has not come in yet, so he wanted to drill my pastures on Sunday (even told me he went to church Saturday night so he could do it Sunday).... YEA!!!!! YES YES YES!!!! All in HIS perfect timing!
Here is a picture after he was done:
