One of my brothers-in -law has been having back pain for a month or two. Doctor did an MRI Thursday and based on the results did some more testing Friday. They told him he has bone marrow cancer and put him in an ambulance and sent him to St. Louis University Hospital. One of his sisters asked to be tested as a donor but we haven't gotten any type prognosis or treatment plans yet. He is 54, has 3 kids in their 20's and just got his first grandchild a couple months ago. All thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and thanks!

Will keep him in our prayers. What a terrible time to go thru something like that, right at Christmas.

Thanks to all! Most of the doctors were off for the holiday weekend. They diagnosed him with Multiple Myeloma. The Dr. that saw him Friday is optomistic because of his age - said it usually doesn't appear until mid-sixties. They were hoping to run another 90 minute scan test today, Monday. Thus far the pain has been at a high enough level that he couldn't remain still enough for them to do it. Said if they can complete this test today they will be able to determine the stage and set the course of treatment tomorrow. Thanks again for your continued prayers!

Drs. still haven't staged the cancer but it is fairly advanced. His kidneys are only functioning at about 10% and his left collarbone and several discs in his neck and back are pretty much just shell with tumors. They gave him 2 more units of blood this morning and he is scheduled for 5+ hours of surgery Monday. They are going to do a fusion in his neck using cadaver bone to replace one disc. They said the disc location is such that they will have to come in from both the front and back. They are then going to inject resin in 2 more discs in the neck, 3 in the middle spine, and 3 or 4 in the lower back. They are also going to fill the collarbone with resin. They hope this will take pressure off the nerves and eliminate some of the pain. He will then wear a front and back jacket/cage brace, or as he calls it - a ninja turtle shell. He tries to be optomistic but is pretty paranoid and just wants to come home. Please continue to keep him and the family in your prayers and thanks again!

He and your whole family are in our prayers. My dad had the same type of spine surgery and it relieved a lot of his pain. It worked so well he had two additional surgeries of the same type. Keep the faith and let everyone know what else we can do to help

His surgery was delayed a week for a throat infection and they were doing another MRI before letting him go home. In the process, they broke a needle off in his arm  , and after replumbing in the other arm discovered a blood clot under one of his ribs. Another week and a half stay. He was originally not deemed to be a candidate for marrow transplant and although none of us are guaranteed our next breath, was told he had maybe 2 years, 5 at absolute best. Finally good news today! They are going to do 2 marrow transplants using his own marrow as the donor tissue, will start chemo on Feb. 1, upgraded his life expectancy to 5-10 years, and if nothing goes wrong tonight, he gets to come home tomorrow!!!!! He has been in St. Louis University Hospital since Christmas Eve. They will be celebrating this long awaited Christmas on Saturday! Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers and please keep it up! :D
