Posting a dead calf

We have been doctoring a three month old calf that originally appeared to have a little scours, then started breathing heavy. It was in a barn with dry conditions and was tubed with electrolytes since it would not nurse and given Baytril and Banimine.

Yesterday, after appearing to be improving, it just laid down and died. Fearing we had something we needed to identify, it was off to the vet this morning to be posted. Turns out it had congenital heart disease, enlarged liver and kidneys but its lungs were clear. The calf is still DEAD but we feel better knowing there isn't some dread disease we couldn't identify on the loose.

well it is rough to lose a calf.but atlest you know what killed it.an you also know its not a diease thatll run through your calves.

It's almost always a good idea to post something that dies unexpectedly if it's at all possible. Sometimes the results will really amaze you, and be totally different than expected. It is nice to know it wasn't from not being treated!

Sorry for your loss but glad for the peace of mind knowing it was the animal not a disease in the herd. Dmc
