Possible Miscarriage?

Hey Folks,
Just noticed one of my cows had something hanging from the rear. It looked kind of like afterbirth but it wasn't nearly as much as that produces. She has run with a bull constantly since Nov. I thought she had "settled" with a calf but noticed the bull paying attention yesterday and today. Yesterday, she just had a bit of thick discharge hanging down. Any guesses as to what is happening? Thanks in advance for the info. Bayoucowgirl

Could be a mucus plug preperation for calving, could be an abortion, could be she was in heat 3-4 days ago. Lots of could be's. Is it tissue like or just mucusy, is she bagged, has her tail head become prominant, is her tuch loose and sloppy?

I agrewith DUN, Go in rectally and feel the uterus. Worst situation would be a dead calf which if present needs to come out asap. If an abortion which might be most likely you should be able to get your hand around most of the uterus, feel no calf and probably will feel the caruncles(buttons) inside the uterus. If it turns out to be an abortion give it much consideration as there can be many causes some of which might be contagious and something to not expose other cattle to.

The cow would be 4 1/2 months bred at most. Shouldn't show any symptoms of calving, ie: bagging, floppy vulva etc. Either has lost a calf, is losing a calf or may be open and the bull just bred her again. Did she show any typical signs of just being serviced??
