Caustic Wife and I were on our way to the other farm today. We were out to assess the winter damage to fences on the yearling pasture. Passing through town I see at least 25 people on the driving range - pounding balls into the outfield. I says to her: "Some folks have entirely too much time on their hands". She says to me: "Looks like they could stand to do something productive with their time". So we ran around the pasture - made a few romantic moves (thats all you need to know) - after 27 years of marriage it should be allowed - had coffee on the tail gate (we do that a lot) and figured what would be required to fix the fence before we run 'em out - and then we stopped for an ice cream on the way home. That evening we walked the last of the calvers - tagged and needled the latest addition and went for supper. Pretty standard day for most country folks. 71 year old Mom is here visiting - she made supper and then she said something that stopped me in my tracks. "You two have been working all day together. You know those folks in the city very seldom do that." In the end I think that is why I keep animals. Working with the family makes it all worth while - the bad days are still better than a good day in one of those high rise chicken coops they call an office building. Bez
