Politics?

I know back in 2007 Macon put some ground rules down. One was "no politics", and I can respect that.

We've lost 2 members that I can see in the last week or so; apparently because of politics, but I'm really not sure. I saw Macon's post in Alabama's thread; It's hard not to notice when the site administrator posts on a thread. He put a link to rancher's where there is a politics board; I went to it, and there are obvious wackos spewing nonsense tilted to "one side". No offense, but I never really cared for Rancher's - I always preferred CT. Would it be acceptable to set up a board for politics on CT? We have boards for pets, plants, cooking, horses - all which have nothing to do with cattle. The thread that holds us all together is our common interest of cattle. We're all adults; would a politics board allow some members to discuss issues they feel important? No one is forced to visit a politics board, obviously, just like I'm not forced to visit the cattle show board.

Maybe some compromise so we can keep the vast knowledge we have here with members who've been there done that?

I did not say that I wanted to talk politics; I'm only trying to think of ways to keep valued members. If you have a better idea, fine, please tell.

Please re-read my first post. I did go to Rancher's and I did see what I called "wackos spewing nonsense". Again, I'm trying to think of ways to keep members; I don't particularly like when CT loses gurus - whatever the reason.

If everyone wants a wholesome board, fine by me, then lets all follow the rules. That means you too Hillsdown. Why put "shytt" and "bull shytt"? Isn't that against the rules as well? Wouldn't be just as easy to say "crap" and not violate the rules?

Well Cypress I guess compromise is not in the cards.
I agree that politics probably shouldn't be discussed. Having said that, sometimes I wonder if it isn't the politics that cause the problem but social issues. In my opinion a discussion of a social issue is what leads to politics and vice versa. Such as kids and schools. That also leads to the discussion about today's kids and lack of respect and work ethic. This maybe should be avoided because it could lead to the discussion on city kids versus country kids and their responsibilities and attitudes. And that wouldn't be cool as it might lead to controversy over whether kids from row crop farms have as much responsibility as from those that come from cattle farms or ranches, and logically that could lead to a discussion on cattle and heaven forbid we don't want that subject brought up on here. It might get locked or worse yet deleted. :lol:

Lots of politics on here depending on what one particular "mod" reads into a post. Apparently she decides what is political and reports to noone. Oh well...guess that's the way it is. Wonder if she paid for that annoying pop up video about "Angus Cattle" on the home page. How do I get rid of it.

This would happen here too, if left unchecked IMHO. I agree with the others that have indicated they want no part of having a political board. Just don't want to hear it, get enough in real time.

Every time I hit the back button it pops up temporarily....at the home page you can click on it and watch the movie....no popcorn or course. :lol2:

Cypress it would turn into the Ranchers PB ,actually it would be even worse. There have been a lot of really good people that have left Ranchers because of that board and how they were judged by every other post they made. I am just glad that I got to know them somewhat personally and we can communicate through emails or Fb..

Social issues seems to be a real problem here on CT ,and it always ends up a left ,or right argument. I hope that bama and hoss take a breather and come back, as summer is coming and we will all be busy with other things and perhaps things may cool down and they will come back in the fall. Sometimes we all act like little 2 years old ,thus the need for mods. Me included, I have had many many posts go poof .. ;-)

As far as the pop up I wouldn't dare click on it for fear of it embedding itself in my computer forever. :help: I love the ask a vet for free add, try it. As soon as you type in your question they ask for payment before it will be posted and answered.. Nothing in life is free. :lol:
