I can't find any info on just what this weed is. I have it in my pasture in NE Texas. Any one know?

It is really hard to tell. But from what I can decifer from the form of the leaf in the first picture and the size of the flower plus the fruit in the second I'd say it was a Passion Flower Vine also known as May Pop.

Still looking for a better picture of the vine.

Common name: "Passionflower". Botanic: Passiflora x alatocacrulea Tender evergreen vine adapted to Southern regions. Zone 9. In "Northern" South dies back in winter and comes back in spring. The Blue flower is a hybrid between P.alata and P.caerulea. There are also red varieties. Is a showy ornamental flower in landscapes and vines can grow to 20 feet or so. Used in upscale landscapes and on trellises and arbors. Grow in large pot and let climb on trellis is other option. Prized flowering vine for its unusual flower.

We always called them May Pop. The fruit is edible, and I ate a bunch of them when I was a kid. Sour as a green apple, and I ate my share of them to. Can't recall ever eating the outside, just the seeds inside. Funny what a kid thinks is good. They are called May Pops because they pop when you step on them.

Good job guys. I think that is what it is. It's been in under some trees in my hay meadow for a while now but seems to spreading.

Sorry about the pics. I thought I followed the upload instructions correctly but it clearly didn't work well. At least it dosen't appear to be a toxic plant to worry about.

We call them maypops too. They're fun to throw at stuff. The seeds are pretty good out of mature maypops if you like sour. The rind is tasteless.

You know they are not taking up that much room. I might leave a few there. :D

I'd suggest if you leave them to be sure to pick and destroy all the "fruit" so it can't spread by seed.
