am thinking of planting some wheat (or triticale) right now for some fall & spring pasture and spring hay. Neighbor suggested to wait for another month so it won't joint. This is in SC KY. Looked on UK extension, they also say plant around 15th of Oct. But don't say anything about pasturing. What works for you?

im in texas but we always planted our wheat by sept 15th.that way if we got good rains it would be ready to graze mid nov or dec 1st.an we always put out high mag minerals 3wks before turning in on the wheat.an we always grazed the cows 1.5 to 2hrs a day.then got them out of the wheat an shut the gate.an we didnt graze the wheat when it was wet.because they would tromp it up.an we always planed 90 to 100lbs to the ac.

In our part of MO we plant the first 2 weeks in September, graze it light in the spring then either combine it or cut and bale it for hay in may-june

Planted some last fall around the 15th of November. Didn't pasture it but cut it around mid-May and rolled it. 5800lbs/acre. I'm sold.

How many pounds per acre did you plant?

Only way I could find it was in the big totes, wound up around 110/lb per acre or a bit more.
