Spring is on the way and so is the weeds. It is time to start sprigging bermuda or plant pernament grasses from seed such as bluestems, klein or native grasses. One problem is the weed seeds sprout first and outgrow your planted grasses. If you spray too soon the grass is killed or set back. Is their any herbicide that can be applied in advance to solve this problem especially the planted seeds?

I spray with glyphosate, wait 10 days and plant. when grass is at 4 leaf stage hit with 2-4-d.
It is still to early for bluestem. I know the weather is warm and it gets us wanting to plant but if the grass germinates and we get a frost it could kill the tender plants. I plant bluestem ( ww b dahl) in April. You may be OK on sprigs. I plant sprigs in March.

Yep, too early even for me here 40 mi north of Houston.
AFAIK, any herbicide that will kill seeds and weed sprouts will also have enough residual soil activity to kill any grass seed and sprouts that comes along with warm temps, including pre-existing forage seed bank.

Novatech--where are you buying your B-Dahl?
