Our calves have pink eye. We been giving them Duramycin shots. My question is...they act like lil kids they don't like it. Is there an easier way to give a calf a shot!? The female isn't as bad, but the male is a hand full. It took my husband laying on top of him and me giving the shot, plus holding. Then he got this sassy mad attitude like we really hurt his feelings. We was really calm and careful with him. I talk to him and pet him tell him all about it, how it was gunna hurt for a mint...well until tomorrow. :lol: He really act like a lil kid.

Assuming you don't have a chute, you can use a panel or even plywood at their age. Squeeze them with the panel in a corner of the barn to give the shots, so you're using a wall and a panel to confine them in a make shift squeeze chute. hubby won't be able to tackle them for long. :D. As they get bigger you'll find ways to refine your working with cattle techniques.

Also you can use a longer acting antibiotic. LA200 will last for 2 days and LA300 will last 3-1/2 to 4 days. It would be easier on both you and the calf I think. But it will probably only take one shot.
 
Assuming I had a barn that sounds like it would work GREAT! We are working on that....we did have a plastic tarp, but when we moved them to the field.... well aaaa ghetto farms we are still trying to figure that one out. Any ideas!? :idea: Thanks for ya'll helps always appreciated. :)

They are bottle calves so you can easily put a halter on them and tie them off somewhere,, for now. Have you read Storeys Guide to Raising Beef yet ?
 
yes, we have gave them the shot 4 days and they seem much better. Thanks all yall!
