Pig weed problem

Sounds like they need something to crowd out the pigweed and hold soil in the turnarounds and edges of the ditches. Chinese tallow will do both. :hide:

Maybe with a few locust trees added in for variety?

We don't have the pigweed problem like that yet, but the high crop prices the last few years turned most of the big farmers around here into heavy machinery operators. With money to burn, they've bought trackhoes and bulldozers and declared war on trees and brush, then farming right up to the edge of the ditches or sloughs. Then they turn around, spend even more money and have to put rock checks in to stop the ditch banks from washing away, SMDH. Beats all I ever seen.

Our pigweed problem stemmed from spreading 15 years worth of dairy manure that had been piled up around the parlor. Spread it in field that promptly grew up with a luxurious crop of the stuff. Sprayed it and burned it, tilled it, brushhogged it, sprayed and burned again, still the stuff was this as dog hair. Finally mowed it and baled it before it flowered. Was planning on burning the bales but a neighbor wanted them to fill in some gullies. His cows discovered the stuff and ate and spread the stuff. Now his main pasture (to rough to even brush hog) is a solid mass of the stuff.

interesting. I have patch in one pasture where I winter the cows. I was going to winter in another area this year to "allow" some grass to grow back there, but maybe it never will??? Should I just keep wintering there and realize it's lost forever???

If you just leave it alone it will just keep spreading
