Help Support CattleToday:

I don't have pictures but we seem to have a set or two of twins most years. Most of the cows carrying twins don't look any different from the the rest of the herd before they calve. Only once was I suspicious of twins ahead of time. I haven't found that the size of their gut necessarily correlates with the size or quantity of calf. I've had cows that looked huge have 70 pound calves, and once I had a cow that I began to suspect was open until she bagged up and had twins.

I agree.. we've had probably 12 to 15 sets of twins over the years, and I can't recall thinking any of the cows were overly big. If you have a cow that looks heavy on one side, chances are the calf is just "laying" on one side. It happens as then get closer to calving.
