Yeah. I know my fair just got over with but I am already looking for new show steers. But I am having trouble becasue I dont know what to look for.. I have 2 limo/hereford/angus cross bulls in the pasture right know. They both were born in May. They are 2 weeks apart. They both have good aspecks but I dont know... I am also going to go out and look at some steers... Any pointers on how to pick them...?

A few things I look for when assessing green steers:
- decent enough structure to carry them through the feeding period, but I'm not pedantic about it otherwise
- length of body and rump
- depth (capacity)
- thickness over the topline
- width between the shoulderblades (I like to be able to put my palm between the shoulderblades, with fingertips on one shoulderblade and wrist on the other.
- muscle expression - they should show some muscle even while green, but again I dont get too hung up on it.
