Still getting used to the "new & improved" CattleToday, so thought for giggles to do a poll. Calf is out of a beefmaster cross heifer and black angus bull.

I'd call her red, but I have seen them turn black in a few months so in my notes I would add a question mark.

Based on the color of her switch and some black hairs inside the ears I agree. But if she stays that color I wouldn't be sad!

I'm thinking based on the dark nose it will eventually be black or dark enough to considered black. Very nice pair whatever the color.
@branxchar&charx , that is a good looking heifer you have there. She is BM crossed with what? Is your Angus bull homozygous for black?

At the moment I'd call it reddish black. Be kool to see how it turns as it gets older.

I have several calves that color as well. Dark around the eyes makes it look like they have makeup or something haha
Agree with everyone she'll most likely get darker as she gets older. Here is a fall born calf that turned brindle, different sire.

The heifer, now cow lol, my guess is she's a BM/Char x but not for sure. I had a similar marked up calf a couple years ago from a BM cow and charolais bull. I thought the bull was homozygous black until this calf as all his other calves are either all black or bwf. But charx can definitely throw a surprise here n there. The bull is registered but i dont think tested for color, ill have to check.
