I have a very healthy stand of Persian clover. Never planted any so it has to have been here as a native or been in some hay from years past. There is getting to be more and more of it over the pastures. There is enough rye grass to prevent bloat and the cows are maybe used to it because it was there and they did not consume a belly full right after a turn in.

Persian clover has also been associated with some livestock health disorders such as: enterotoxaemia (pulpy kidney), photosensitisation sometimes, urinary calculi (clover stones) incidence may increase in sheep, and occasional red gut in sheep.

Here is a photo of an old cow pattie. On the left is Persian clover, on the right is Dutch white clover.

The nice thing about the Persian is it dies off at the same time as the rye, giving the Bermuda a chance to get going while the cattle are still eating white clover. Never had any problems with it grazing cattle, sheep, and horses.
