Six weeks ago I put out $105/acre worth of fertilizer on some alicia and Tift 85. The day after I put it out I got 2 inches of rain then from that point on we got fairly frequent rainfall. My plans were to cut the hay in 30 days but weather threatened rain so I waited. Last week we got over six inches in one downpour and the grass was really needing to be cut. Monday I laid one 15 acre field of T85 on the ground and Tuesday I laid 25 acres of alicia the ground then fluffed the 15 acre field. Wednesday I baled 100 rolls of some really pretty Alicia (4 rolls/acre) and refluffed the T85. Thursday I baled 129 bales of T85 (8.6/rolls/acre) in the 15 acres I cut on Monday which btw also has had seven replacement heifers on it since spring. Granted I had to fluff it twice in spite of using a conditioner mower and I could have baled it sooner had I not had a few equipment problems but the weather was on my side. Anyhow, I thought it was interesting to see the difference in the yields between the two grasses. I do like the Alicia in its ease of baling but when I look at the return on my dollar in fertilizer I do love T85. But then again, if this was a wet year I'd probably be singing Alicia's praises and cussing 85.

Oh, the rest I have to cut and bale will be T85 that has been grazed only once for a short period so I hope the weather cooperates.

I have Alicia and t 85 . T85 I have cut already Alicia hasn't grown in the drought. Just wondering why you would be cussing the t 85 if the weather was wet.? My Alicia does ok in wet weather buy its not worth burning when its remotely dry.

I meant not being able to get it dry enough to bale. Sometimes that extra day isn't there. I forgot what year it was but I fluffed one field of 85 7 times and never got it to dry and finally tossed a match to it cause there was so much new growth that I couldn't bale it. I think I measured 1.5 inches per day. Tift 44 on the otherhand was cut in the afternoon and baled next day at lunch with no fluffing or nothing. Just not the yield. Pretty hay though.

I see what you meant . Had me worried that it wouldn't grow or something . I planted mine 2 years ago .been dry ever since but I did make 5 rolls to he acre 80 days after I planted it . Second cutting.
