I am pasturing a hay field 50% alfalfa 50% grass. It has had several frosts and the cows have pastured it for 2 weeks now. My question is the alfalfa has dried on the stems and is mostly brown in color the grass is still green would the alfalfa still have any nutritional value at this stage? I would like to pasture this for at least another 2 weeks. Any information would be appreciated this is the first time I have pastured a hay field. Thanks

Generally speaking a few days wait after a killing frost is safe to pasture, and minimizes any risk of bloat. Nutritionally the longer you wait the more likely leaves drop off and you're losing energy and protein.
