Then take the 3pt spreader and start spreading up and down the field and crossways to try to maximize coverage I then get off and walk around making sure I have some good coverage then hook up the disc and set it to where its aggressive but not super aggressive the discs are about 2 inches in the ground and it should leave some ridges in the ground from fluffing up the dirt. The board on the back should drag to help make sure seed to soil contact happens. I have great results in my eyes that work for me and the cattle. if you have cattle on it and you cant take them off or don't have an area to move them too you cant really get too aggressive with my method. If your soil needs working and you don't have to stick your cattle on that area for a year then chisel plow is what I suggest then disc the soil up until its very fine spread seed then lightly disc it in. If you have any questions pm me im no expert by any means but my cattle won't lack any grass either.
tnwalking, this is what I do but a lot will not agree with my method and call it wasteful. I have a drill but do not use it. This is what I do for established areas. First thing I do is get soil where it should be. control weeds then do this method. what I do is in the fall either mow it low or let the cattle munch till it is fairly low.
