I know it is early but I am trying to plan my pastures for this summers grazing. what is the best grass for grazing. I am not going to cut hay, only graze pairs. what is the best way to prepare the ground for planting. I have mixed grasses now and have seperate pastures for rotational grazing. just curious as to what you plant and have good and bad sucess with.

I planted orchard grass, red clover, white clover and lespedeza. The orchard grass is always there, but goes dormant when it gets hot. The clover grows when it is cool, but goes dormant when it gets really hot. Red clover eventually will thin out, much like alfalfa does after a few years, and white clover usually replaces it. Then the lespedeza kicks in strong during the heat of July- Sept. These three have worked well for me in this area. The lespedeza re-seeds itself as the white clover does.
