Palpating short bred question

I just palpated the cow from the 1st AI attempt. I can't pull a blood sample until next weekend to meet the post calving interval requirements.
At 40
Days post breeding the cervix was firm, and the entire uterine structure horns and all were really soft. No discernible difference in the size horns. But both extremely soft. If she were cycle again it would be in 2-3 days.
Those that palpate, what your experience in early breds like this. My impatience is starting to get the best of me. :cowboy:

My expereriance is that I'm alot happier just to wait and see if she comes back in heat. If I miss two cycles that I'm watching for(especially on a beef cow) and don't see anything, that's more reliable for me than my palpation at 40 days.

I'm looking hard for signs of heat in her. But 21 days after I've seen her bred I've also seen some response from her calfs or other cows for the last 3 years. Then there is no 2nd. 23 days after breeding her her heifer calf had some Sniffing and tried to jump her. But that's normal from what I've seen for her. My question was really directed towards the uterine tone. She should be starting to tone up in the uterus if she's coming in. And softening in the cervix if she's coming in.
Just trying to nail down palpation in the early stages. Thanks cp. anyone else feel free to jump in

At 6 weeks the pregnant horn should be the size of a small banana and the other one considerably smaller. For me 6-8 weeks is the easiest to palpate with any accuracy

I went ahead and ran her through to pull the blood sample and also went back in. Taking more time, I was able to feel a slight difference in size in the right horn. Maybe 1/4-1/3 bigger than the left.
Blood sample will tell me for sure. Thanks
