Outsourcing Cattle Care

Don't know that I would trust anyone around here that much. But, that's here I'm sure others have done this and will share their thoughts.
The guy is my best friend... He sold about 80% of his herd last year and wants to relax a bit. Has enough room for about 200 head, but doesnt want me to bring in anymore than about 30 or 40 brought in.
He kept back some of his "money making cows" and runs purebred red angus on em. He suggested I go to the sale barn, buy older cheap cows, and sell all the offspring. He will handle all the feeding, calving, and hauling of these cattle for 1/2 the calf crop. Is this standard?

When I first started out I leased cows I still Have 6 on lease They belong to an old gut I just keep them around till they get too old .I f he should ever become deceased they will go pretty promptly
deal I have is 1/3 him 2/3 me---calfes have to 500 pounds when sold I dont carry empty cows over the winter .
A lot of farmers who retired leased their cows got them out of the taxes.If your starting out it has its advantages
1 no banker and that can be nice if prices plumet
2 If it dies its not your loss

if I was doing it again --If cow had twins owner would only get 1/3 of 1 calf you need a little something comeing your way

We do ours on a 60/40 share. We get 60% and the owner 40%. They supply the bulls and replace any cows that die or are culled. We pasture, winter, calve them out and pay the vet bills on them. We have a contract wrote up. They buy our share of the calves from us in the fall for the average price on the week that we send them home. The calve are all weighed individually, and the weights averaged. We are happy with this deal.
