I hate horns. What breed?

Both Beefmaster...

The selection of polled Beefmasters within the genepool I like is very limited, but I am always looking for that polled bull that works for me.

What was your reasoning behind getting rid of your old bull?

The biggest reason was just financial flexibility. I didn't purchase the new bull to replace the other. However, since I had him, I could afford to get rid of the first bull. I've only gotten a couple of calves from him so far (two cows were bred in the fall of 08). Both of their calves (bulls) have been nice. They've also both had that navel. One of the cows has no underline at all. The bull would be fine if all the cows were where I wanted them. I'm hoping (and praying) that I'll get some good heifers from him to influence my herd. I have a few cows that make me desire more bone and a few that could be a bit thicker. I think this younger bull will help me achieve those things more quickly.

he sure does look good out in your pasture.an he should throw some real nice calves.an he should tighten the sheath up on the bull calves.an not but near as much navel on the heifer calves.

I like his thickness compared to the 2009 sire (not that there is a problem with the 2009 sire - just saying the 2010 is thicker).

He does appear a touch cleaner on the underline, but both are similar.

Do you have any shots from the front or angled to see their widths?

He's penned up right now...He'll go to work in March. I hate to even say the 2009 bull has sheath. All his leather is in the navel area in front of his sheath. From his scrotum to that point, he's slick bellied. The new bull will be an improvement though. In these pictures, the 2009 bull was pictured at about 35 degrees (though it doesn't drop much). The 2010 bull was pictured at about 70 degrees in the warm spell last week.

I have your thoughts, almost exactly. I believe the 2009 sire has enough muscle and thickness that he's not a problem. At the same time, he's not going to significantly improve thickness in one generation. See my response to bigbull regarding the underline. I do have a couple of pictures that will adequately display the difference in thickness of the two bulls. I'll try and post those when I get chance.

Here are two front should angled photos...I think it helps make evident the difference in hind-quarter.
