Hi all,
this is our first time to show a steer.
We have learned alot an still learning.
We was hopping to go to Houston but dont know yet.
Wanted to get your opinion on this Brangus steer.
He still needs to fill out alot. WE have been poking the corn to him.
thank you for your input

wow...beefy. what feed have you got him on? how many days til your final show? nice brangus steer right thur. make sure you loin him when you get him out in the show ring to level out that top and poke out that butt. he looks good.

Believe me he dont need to poke that butt out anymore.
Thats the downer I dont like about this steer is his rear. Its to round. HE wasnt like that when we got him at 300 lbs but as he aged his rear got rounder for the bad. Last time we weighted him is when this picture was taken an he was 1154.
We are *trying* to go to Houston. It will depend on if he is fully covered or not. If not he will go to our County show in April.
We feed a Coop finisher. Plus other things.
We do feed Barley but not as much as the corn at this time because we are trying to but weight on him. In our experience with Barley is does put on cover but its a hard cover. So thought we would get him to about where he need to be an bump up the Barely then. Just our thinking. Maybe the wrong thinking.
Like I said we are first timers an we have learned everyone does things different.
Look at this photo an you can tell about his rear. I guess I should of showed this one first.

Looks like you've done a great job with that calf! Very smooth muscled. It's always harder to feed out a Brahman influenced calf, so you've done good.

Hope you make it to Houston. Good luck!

Tabor, I think you've done a great job with that brangus steer. I'm not a brangus fan, but I think you've done a great job. Good luck, let us know how he turns out.

Great looking steer! He looks a whole lot better than alot of the brangus done here at my county fair.

Yes he is suppose to be 100% brangus.
We bought him from family that raises brangus for over 20 years. But they havent never showed anything before. So thought we would give it a try.
After going back an looking at his dad he gets the roundness from him.
Thank you all for the comments.

Never been to a show were they showed Brangus, but is the rounded but typical type for Brangus? Wondering if by Brangus standards would this actually be a nice butted steer or average? We had a full-blood Brahman heifer win a local jackpot last year and she sure was built different than the other show heifers, but everyone said she was awesome for her breed.

I'm not into Brangus very much but he looks nice. Butt's a little round but he looks AwEsOmE!!! 8)

That's what your steers needs, round butts.

Cowboy13 Why you ragging on this girl so much? You have been on her on three different threads! Quit being like la4angus, if you get such an early start who knows how it will end.

Cause she jumped down my throat when I mentioned changing halters.

Defending her reason for using those halter (to each there own) is no reason to follow her from thread to thread making sarcastic remarks about her cattle and mentioning how much better you are doing than her. But I guess it is a free world so if you want to bully some new girl on her go ahead.

OK smut. Your worthless little opinion has been noted. Now go clean some more toilets after you wash your hands.

I'm getting quite used to being picked on. And I am also considering everyone's comments and input too. Thanks for everyone who's sticked up for me though. But you don't have to. I'm gettin used to all the people advice and comments, rude or not. :P

I don't think they are in Kansas but they're pretty popular down here in Texas, aplusmnt.

Sorry I haven't responded in a while, Tabor. I've been gone all week at the Fort Worth livestock show. He does have a nice rear. When I said loining him, I meant mainly just to even out that top. Other than that, you should do good with him. Good luck at Houston! I'll be up there. You should do well there.
