2002 cow was open for two years so she got fat. The cow used to be in cattle shows for FFA and 4-H few years ago. Time to let her go.

Don't know what happened to her tail.

That is the problem with showing cattle we usually get them to dang fat and then they are hard to get bred.

I really like the red heifers.

Did she loose the tail this year. I see tail loss some here and some come up open the same year. Just wondering if there was something between the two things.

She lost the tail 4-5 years ago...not sure excatly year she lost a part of the tail. My guess is fescue.

Thats usually the cause here. Just wondered if it happened the same time. I cant put a pattern to the losses.

Seems to me the ultimate measure of any cow is what she produces in the environment she's in and your ones look to be producing really really well. So while your cows may not look that special the calves sure do. Your red replacement hfr calf looks like a beauty.

Me either. I can't figured out why she is open in two years despite of have 8 calves of her own.....all bulls.

Your cows look rough, worked hard. But, calves look real good. Cows must be doing what they are supposed to do. Only cow in decent condition is the fat open cow.
Gizmom - not all show cattle are fed to be too fat. I've never had one miss a beat in calving due to the fact that she was shown.

Guess decent is relative. Breeding back is decent enough for me.

Do your heifers compete on the national level? NAILE? - overweight ones are as hard to get bred as thin ones.

Jeanne i agree for early fall they looked hard but his calves did look good. I did notice he likes fine boned animals. Would have figured up north theywould have been more hearty?

Bad drought this year but their body condition has improved after the calves has sold.

All but the open one,if they are breeding back in a timely manner, it appears to me they are doing a good job. Nice calves therefore IMO nice cows. B&G
