I'm curious what kind of other enterprises yall are or have been involved in within the Ag realm. I am always interested in things that compliment cattle ventures. My background being in reproduction has led me into breeding several different critters, from pigs to dogs to fish to horses all while playing the cow game.

Just the cattle are enough for me right now. That and all the kids 4-H critters. However my neighbors run several hundred head of cattle, 400 plus Kiko goats, mustangs, and they also grow native grasses and wildflowers. They must be doing OK as I've counted them having at least 3-5 employees and they go sun up till sun down. My wife's uncle is a seed salesman and told me some of their wildflower seed goes for $300 a pound. I've seen them hand picking it. Last 2 years I've been paid darn good for them to come over and harvest some broom sedge I'm trying to rid my place of, heck they pay me for the seed and then sell it! Hope to have it limed enough this year I won't have anymore for them to get.

They are big into Kit Pharo and his teachings. They have also been teaching me a lot on Bud Williams cattle handling techniques.

Interesting folks.

Not calling any names, but a guy in East Texas has got a feral hog pettin' parlor. Maybe he'll come on and tell us more about it.

I had four in the trap yesterday morning, next time I catch some more I will give you a call. You can come on down and I will teach you how to pet these misunderstood creatures.

My avitar of the old goat in the red shirt in the rocker with the shawl around the back of it? Nah...I deleted it.

Well I will jump in you need to run down to Crowders Feed and Seed and see if he will lend you a head puller cause have got yours stuck in deep.
I bet every snare made would fight back like a lion if you tried to put it around that head.

For a mistaken identity , he ran like someone poured scalding water down his back. Maybe it's a split personality deal. Or it could be the son again. Or could be something new...maybe his grandaughter has logged on to his computer , guessed his password, taught herself how to type, and impersonated the old goat.

Guess I hijacked the thread. Ooops is all I can say. Saying I'm sorry just wouldn't be very sincere.

You are living proof though that you can not catch them by putting salt on their tails.

Mixed farming was usual in our area, I had Boergoats, pigs,Hubbard, then later Ross chickens for turnover, and my great passion, beef cattle. We also managed natural resources for profit, hunting and the sale of thatching grass.
I presently manage a company owned farm, producing F1 pigs and Angus cross Hereford cattle,(crossed both ways), while I re-srart my own herd again.

I always thought a custom baling operation would go along good with a cattle operation here in the South. Many of these guys feel like they have to have the equipment, anyway. They might as well use it enough to justify having it.

Thats a buch of cow flop Texan and you know it what you will end up with is a bunch of hobby boys being custom bailers.
I can see it now boys will show up with an old Ford 9N cause there Grandpa had one of the old pieces of crap and 40,000 dollars of bailing equipment it can't pull. Or on the flip side they will have a 45,000 dollar tractor and equipment and maybe roll out a thousand bales on weekends off Boy that will be effiecent.
