Very little difference between a 6M Rem and a .243 Win.

Case capacities: (Grains of water) (according to my software)

6MM Rem=55 Grains

.243 Win=54 Grains

The 6MM is a better cartridge for handloading with the longer neck length.

Find him a Remington Model 7.

Not pulling your chain Mike but there is a lot more difference in the actual recommended loads for the two. This is the extreme but it is in the book.

Nosler Manual #5; .243 with 95/100 gr bullet 42.5gr of RL-22 3019fps
6mm Rem 95/100 gr bullet 48gr of RL-22. 3261fps

That's a 12% increase in powder with a corresponding increase in recoil. The gain in speed is however only 8%.

I agree on the 6mm being better to load because of the long neck. I also think from personal experience that it is safer. I have found the .243 to be a little cranky sometimes with some wierd pressure spikes. Kinda like a 7mm Mag. The sad thing is Remington I believe is the only company chambering for the 6mm.

I shoot a 6mm Ackley and would not trade it for anything.

Not to worry about pulling my chain. There are lots of scenarios in reloading manuals.

I was chronographing some 55 Grain Ballistic Tips shot out of a 6MM a while back and they were running 4200-4300 FPS.

I was filling the case to the start of the neck with H4831.

Talk about screaming!

I'm surprised they held toghether at that speed. I've sure seen a lot of bullets blow up when we pushed them too fast.

I shoot 95gr bergers in my 6mm ackley, man do they carry. Love em for varmint silhouette competition.
