is over and all I have to show for it is a jillion skeeter bites. I saw 0 deer. I had a coyote come right under my stand....literally between my ladder and tree. I got drawed back on him but he would'nt stop for a shot so I didn't take a chance on busting a 20.00 arrow. Maybe tomorrow my luck will change.

My son has been hunting Archery Elk for the last 3 weeks. He asked me today if I had a cow he could shoot just for some meat. :lol2:

I get excited when season opens, but even when I was young I never could bring myself to kill a deer in short sleeve weather. I have absolutely a zero tolerance policy for flies, and even more so mesquitos, on my meat. I spend this time of year scouting around.

Hoss, why don't you use a thermacell?
I can never remember to get one when I am in town.
Order it online. And get the camo holster to go with it
I got one. I was surprised how well it worked. I sat in a ground blind Wednesday at the edge of a skeeter infested swamp and didn't get a single bite while sitting in the blind. Got hammered while walking in though. I'm sold on these things.

Wait till the deer get down wind of you Hoss. They will smell you if the Thermo cell is on. I still use mine when I have to but if I see a deer I turn it off and stick it in my silver scent suit. You ever use Shines scents?? Good stuff.

I've got a scent-lok back pack that I drop it in after I turn it off........I thought about them smelling it before I bought it but them darn skeeters have been on a terror this fall.

I haven't used Shines stuff. Does it work better than Dead Down Wind and other sprays? I am always looking for an edge. I wear scent-lok pants, shirts , jackets etc., shower in descent products twice daily, pack my clothes in plastic and earth scent wafers until I get to the stand. I rarely have a deer wind me but it happens once or twice a season. If I can do something to make it 100% I am willing to do it................especially for a big buck. Many guys think I am nuts with the scent control measures but it has payed off several times. A big whitetail bucks nose is almost impossible to fool. From my observations a big buck will second guess his eyes and his ears but NEVER second guess his nose. One whiff of something he don't like and he will vacate the area......many times I have watched them wind me, stop in their tracks and slowly back up and sneak off. When a doe or younger buck gets a snoot full they will blow and stomp their foot and run off. I guess they don't get to be big by being stupid. The gene pool gets pretty well cleansed each season.

Nothing will be 100%, but Shines seems to help and I don't think its hurt me yet. Alot of buck and doe scents I have used spooked more game than they have attracted in my eyes. I agree with everything you said about scent control. When
I first wanted to go bow hunting my Pop set me up in a real tight spot. He always squeezed wild oranges on our clothes,
But this time he also put my clothes in a bag with cow manure. I had a old Indian recurve bow, wood shafts and bear razor heads but they got the job done. She walked past me at 15' and the arrow went plum thru. That was more than 40 years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Them old time trappers knew about scent control for sure.

Deer are not moving at all. Lots of rain and mosquitoes. I do use a thermocell in the ground blind. Brother shot a hog, but that is like swatting mosquitoes, they are so plentiful.
