Been to our first show for the season. Took ten South Devons, came home with both grand championships and got soaking wet loading the cattle to come home. Had been a stinking hot day.
Have our local show this weekend have 20 South Devons and three Brahmans in lead classes also have 5 Brahmans and one Hereford in the unlead pens. Looking forward to the unlead classes as this is the first time that these classes have been held at our show. Keen to see how we go with our over 30 months female class,we have 4 cows and calves and one in calf heifer in that class. Our bulls should do OK as well have 3 bulls in the over 30 months class. The Brahman team are all new to the ring, but pretty good fleshy reds, have 2 bulls and one 18 mths heifer.
Hope the weather stays fine.

Congrats on your success!

Good luck this weekend ...especially with that many. I know what it is like to take a trailer load, or 2 or 3.

I love showing in the unlead, we call them non-haltered, classes. A little different work on my end, but I like to be able to see them running and playing in the ring.

half our local show over. So far going well. Took 6 bulls in the unled section 4 Brahmans,1 SD 1 Hereford. Here are the results.
1st with a Brahman,2nd with our Hereford 3rd with our Brahman and the champion bull.
Helen (my wife) got two firsts and two seconds with her entries in the egg section, she had five entries in that so is very happy with the result.
Big day tomorrow, our team of SDs and Brahmans look great.
Keep you posted. Will send photos soon.

We ended up winning with our South Devons
Supreme Exhibit in the South Devon breed.
6 Championships
4 Reserve champions
With our Brahmans we won reserve senior champion bull and the junior champion bull.
The weather was warm and there were lots of spectators.
We have another show about 70 miles away next Saturday.
We have cut our team back this week to three bulls and two cows and calves. Next weekends show is always a good one, showed for 8 years this time, showed there back in the early eighties for about 5 years that time.
This is the thirty first year that I have shown cattle. Have been to over 160 shows in that time. Missed out on ribbons twice.
Just love the interaction and showing off good cattle.

In the interbreeds the winners were
Champion female, an outstanding Murray Grey cow with a 8 month old calf at foot.
Champion male, Polled Hereford
Pair of Bulls, Charolais
Pair of Females, Murray Grey
Exhibitors group, Polled Hereford
The judge was a worker on a Santa Gertrudis property. He did a very good job
Our SD cow was third in the interbreed female and our bull gained the same place. The Braford breed was the runner up to all the awards listed above.
Best lineup of cattle for years.

We are not that different over here Jeanne.
Each breeds grand champion bulls compete for the champion bull of the show and likewise for the female. Some of the breeds have their individual supreme of that breed. Often small shows over here that have lower entries will have interbreed classes for British,European and Bos Indicus (or Tropical) just to give competition for those with only limited entries in some breeds.
At our show we had,Hereford,Poll Hereford,Angus,Red Poll,Brahman,Braford,Charolais,South Devon,Murray Grey,Pinzgauer,British White and Dexter.
