One less problem.

We have had this mangy coyote wandering around for the last couple months. He actually hadn't caused any problems, but calving is coming up, and I have my chickens and ducks. Sooner or later he would become a problem. Add in the fact that he had mange, and something definitely had to be done. I have seen him several times over the last week, but of course never had any way to do anything about him.

Well, I found him today. I wasn't 3 feet away from it. Was checking the calves in the corral, and just walked by the bale feeder. At first I thought it was a cat, but it just didn't look quite right. I will tell you that it kinda spooked me, I really didn't want him jumping out at me. But he was curled up, and never even knew I was there. Don't know what all was going on, whether he was just sound asleep or what, but I was even talking to the calves, and 4-H steer, and he never moved. I had to go get the gun, since I really didn't think I would need it to check on the cows in the corral. He was still curled up in the hay when I got back, never moved. Never knew I was there.

id go ahead an kill that yote.you dont need no headaches at calving time.or him eating your chickens an ducks.

are you still going leave that hay for the cows with all the junk it might have been carrying ? might have been dead before you shot it

Yeah something was really wrong with that one. Glad you got him. Found one a few years ago, already expired, curled up by our old post pile. For some reason they come in close to die.
Had a real mangy one quite a few years ago living in our hay stack, never got a shot at that one.

Well, I know this one had mange. DH says that he was pretty bad with it. He was sleeping in the feeder with cows eating around him, and I think he must have tuned them out. Plus, he was used to us (people) being around. He was pretty quiet the day before when we saw him. But, mange is a pretty terrible thing. Nothing like losing your haircoat in the middle of winter....

burn whats left of the hay, yote and all. The mange they carry is VERY hard to control in cats and dogs.
Only thing that worked was ivermectin by a vet and ivermectin must not be used on herding dogs.

Ivermectin is only more of a problem with the "Lassie" type Collie.
Other "herding breeds" have no more problems with Ivermectin than any other breed of dog.
