Gotta have a laugh.. and I found it on Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_o ... ous_people

A spider named after Angelina Jolie
A bunch of beetles named after GW Bush, Rumsfeld, and company, as well as Doc Watson and Hitler
A crab named after Matt Groening of The Simpsons
A wasp named after Ellen Degeneres
A lizard named after TheodoreRoosevelt..

The list goes on.. it's pretty darned funny!

When a new species is discovered, the person responsible for classifying and describing the new species will often honor a colleague by using their name as the second word in the binomial nomenclature. For example, if I discover a new bovine of the genus Bos, I could honor you by naming it Bos efremi.

It seems like it's mostly insects that are left for naming though!

No. Even fossils are named in honor of researchers. My roommate in graduate school and life long friend, is a paleontologist and world renowned in ammonite cephalopods. He has an ammonite named for him. Cannot remember the genus but the trivial component of the binomial was masoni. His last name is Mason.
