Older bred cows

The bigger stock cow sales and video auctions are the first two that come to mind. And it never seemed to take me that long just going to the auctions to put together a load.

Someone mentioned buying a load of older bred cows
Any way to source them other than order buyer or lots of time at the sale barn ?

Depends on how many you want, what you are prepared to pay to get them and how far you will go to get them.

Several dispersal sales in western Canada coming up - check the Ritchie Brothers Auction company - they are North America wide.

Richie Brothers sells cattle? Didn't know that. They have a huge equipment auction here (mostly construction equipment) but I had never heard of them selling cattle.

Found 40 -+ pairs with 300# calves
7-9 yo cows been with the bull for
2000.00
I figure the calves are worth 800
And the cows would weight out 1200.00
So I think the price is right

1. They don't sound too bad.
2. If you don't have time to do it yourself, a good order buyer is great to have.

I was really just wanting bred cows and not pairs, but I think those pairs are a fair deal
The problem Ive had in the past with order buyers is that'd just buy want ever came through the ring
Not necessarily the quality I was wanting

They do not sell cattle - they sell ranches - and that means they often sell the cows too

Call them and talk to them

Shanghai, not sure where you are, but those 40 pairs as you described them sounds like a chance to make some money. With 300 lb calves, they should be bred back 1st stage, so fall fresheners. Hold the calves on them until early June, they should weigh 550-600 and be worth 1100-1200 dollars per calf. That gets you down to 3rd period short solid cows with only 800-900 in the purchase price. Sounds like those cows weigh 1300, so they will probably weigh 1500 in August as springers and be worth 1700 or more----if you wanted to sell them then, that would be a very good profit, or you would have some cheap fall fresheners. Around here, a nice short solid cow that is springing will run from 1500-1750 each. A broken mouth springer is from 1300-1500 each.
