The show went well. It was a little bit bigger show than I expected, but I enjoyed it until just before we left. The heifer did really well for her first show, didnt get stressed out, was very calm the whole time until this afternoon. She placed 3rd in her class, and the judge said she would place higher if she was setting up better. She sets up good, but he said her legs are so big and thick I need to set her up a little different so she still looks like a winner. The bull finally acted right in the ring (last couple shows he acted up in the show ring some), and he got 2nd place. Judge said he is a really good bull, just way too small. He said the bull that got 1st was about as good of a bull, but he was too massive. Said if mine was about a foot taller he would win 1st no doubt, but he just cant put a bull that small ahead of a bigger one.
Now the real fun part. Me and the other girl from my chapter that went to the show (by the way, she got Calf Champion) went to take pictures in front of the big Washington County Fair board. The photographer told me to stand outside the area to keep her heifer looking alert. Next the guy comes over with a cheerleaders pompom and says to shake it to get her attention and shakes it right in front of my heifer and she freaks out. Started jumping and running. She jumped up, landed on my foot and tryed to run. She smashed into the stalls and bent the post holding them up and took off toward the show arena. Jumped again and I went down and the rope got away from me. My head was about 6 inches from smashing into the heavy metal pole on the gate. She ran around the arena, in the middle of the bull show. A few people tryed to hook her rope with the show sticks, but the entire halter just came off. Well, everyone ran her into a small pen and she calmed down. Now, I have a shattered foot. Cant walk, but I guess I learned a valuable lesson today. Dont shake a pompom in front of the animals.
