Got our last herd done. Wont have to get anyone up until sale day. Hoping the world doesnt fall apart and kill the prices.
Day started out early, went out and called in the girls. And of course, they were a mile away....its times like this i get on this forum, when i can get a signal..

Good thing i checked the pasture before i closed the gate, these guys were playing at the pond and had no idea their mothers had left.

And of course, since i was by myself, the cows scatter in this pasture. I need every one of them to go into a gate almost a mile away on the other end...ugh

I think i'm a reincarnated cow dog....got them all in

Had to call from there, the guys were bringing 2 trailers and sometimes the cows hear it and head out the other way...so, i sit and wait.
A new grass growing here. Seed head looks bahaya but the grass looks bermuda...likes the wet spots..

This calf, who has never been touched by anyone, decided he'd like to see if i taste good..

I was friends with my sister in law before i met my husband. They had this trailer back then, i was around 14. I'd see it at playdays and wondered who owned such a fancy rig. It was baby puke green and they had a matching truck, ford 4 door and i believe it was one of the first 4 door trucks. It was one fancy outfit. We still use this trailer and if anyone comes to borrow one, they get this one and not our aluminum trailer...lol

From this place, we haul the calves to the house corrals because the chute in this corral is crap...I've nearly had my head taken off castrating. We haul the calves to the house, then haul them back. Told husband this should be the year we get a new squeeze chute. I want one like we have at the house. He agreed..yay

I had vertigo early this morning so i did not help sort...I stood around and helped sort on the other side of the fence with everyone watching....This is Fatty McButterpants...

Although this herd did not win the overall big calf %, it did have one of the biggest...He's younger than he looks, he had small baby testicles..I'm guessing he's just 3 1/2 and not 4 months old

Sometimes.. Just depends on when we want to sell. We are almost equal distance from there, SS and Paris....SS seems to be the best place for cull cows most times, but we've done well in Winnsboro too....Paris is iffy..

you should get a real nice price for your calves as high as they are now.if pairis is getting 2 new barns then that will kill the other 2 barns.ive got a pair that im going to send this fall.and i may get rid of 2 angus x beefmaster 1st calf heifers as well.but im not sure on them yet.

Nice pictures cowgirl! Yeah there is always one in the herd that has to lick you or the 4-wheeler. Got some pictures somewhere of one of ours doing that.

Nice pictures... My cows will rub on my bike until they knock it over, or break the levers... I usually leave it running and they don't get too friendly with it.

Why don't you take em to OKC?
I've seen what calves are bringing up there. Its just too far to justify unless we could find someone with a big stock trailer and haul them all at once. We have a semi, just not the big stock trailer.. And its about 4 hours away.

Took the morning off and went riding. Wanted to see if the pines are growing.....yep, they're growing..

Moved heifers to pasture around the house. Decided we didint need the hay.

Just got in from a little shopping with the guys. They want a new skid steer. Had to take the one we have to the shop, so the guys looked at a new one. The dealership is going to come up with what they will give us for our old one and what we can get this one for. I might even drive this one....We want the enclosed cab. We have tons of bumble bees, ground hornets, not good to be strapped in this and no way out if you get swarmed...

Then, across the way, we looked at squeeze chutes. We like the Pearson we have and this store had a couple. We'll think on it a while because they are expensive, but i bet we get one. We have the headgate already, so all we need is the chute. Ours is old, but has been a really good chute so it will go to the other corrals and the new one will go at the house corrals.
This new one is a little different. It has a guard on the floor that keeps the cows from going down. Has anyone used this type chute with this guard. I may ask in another thread just in case some dont look at this post.....but here it is. You can see the guard sticking out the head gate...It goes halfway down and the cow straddles it. I can almost see them using it as a step instead unless once squeezed they cant get their feet up past it. Has to come out when doing calves, so it may come out anyway.
