THIS is a one good reason NOT to kill every snake you see. Texas Indigo snake eating a Rattler. The guy who took this pic said "it was still rattling all the way down." :yuck: They don't hurt humans or dogs!! There ARE snakes that are GOOD to have around, because they target the deadly ones. Just thought I'd share for those of you who think, or have friends who think, "the only good snake is a dead snake." NOT TRUE!! In fact, it it's against FEDERAL LAW to kill an Indigo. There's only 4 poisonous/venomous snakes in the USA... Rattler, Coral, Copperhead & Water Moccasin (Cottonmouth). Learn about them & please don't kill every snake you see. It's important. --CG

We have the bull snake in Tex that kills ratters also, I have not seen a bull snake in years, hope they are not going extinct, the resemblance is so close to a rattler you have to look for the ratters to identify which type it is.

I only kill venomous snakes. The others are beneficial, unless you have chickens. I think I'd rather have a yard full of chicken snakes, than a yard full of chickens. That black indigo while not venomous, will kick your a$$. They have a real nasty attitude . I've seen a few bull snakes in the last few years, but not many. Some of the best jokes I've ever seen involved chicken snakes. Say graybeard how are you with mice, spiders and deep water. ;-)

Around here we don't have any venomous snakes, so I don't mind them.. lots of garter snakes, some rubber boas, and occasionally a king snake.. biggest one I've seen yet was about 5 feet long and 1 1/2" around. Picked up a mad garter snake once and he tried his darnedest to bite my hand.. was kinda funny!

I don't kill any snakes unless there is a chance one of the kids could get bit . I take the chicken snakes out of the hen house and turn them lose a few miles away . I thought we only had 4 types of venomous snakes in texas but that's not true . The hog nose and garter snakes also venomous. But it's no worse than bee venom .

We have indigos here and I'd never kill one for any reason. Beautiful snakes. They are getting rare not from people killing them but because they get killed on roadways because they are rather slow and so long. I've seen some that pushed 10 foot in length. Granted, I had to try and catch this one but after it had had enough of my failed attempts to grab its tail it lifted its head up off the ground a good three foot and bowed up at me. I let him alone.

Another beneficial snake is our King Snake. They kill other snakes too but they don't discriminate between venomous and nonvenomous snakes.

Says who that not all snakes are bad? As far as I'm concerned they will either hurt you or make you hurt yourself.
Right you are.
I don't have to like something just because it is not poison.
The main reason I don't like snakes is because they are snakes. :x :x :x

As this picture shows, the evil things cannot even get along with each other :!:

I kill ALL rattlesnakes on sight. The others ca gotei yas long as they don't find a way to scare the livin shyt out of me.

If you are a snake and you do that you are, dead dead dead.

I won't kill them if they aren't poisonous (since we don't have chickens any more). In fact, a guy caught one at work a while back, and I put it in a sack and brought it home and turned it loose. I'm tired of the mice and rats eating my feed, so I was hoping the snake would help with that little problem.

We always had rattlers at home but they rattle and give a warning and will try to escape.
The cottonmouth I have a hard time spotting when coiled up hiding and them boogers are spoiling for a fight and will attach without warning
We had lots of racers and bull snakes at home
Seemed like if you had a good population of them you didn't have many rattlers
