I shut my truck door at 7 am yesterday morning, walked half a mile to the back of the pasture and was tagging this guy by 7:35.
Mine was the first shot I heard, then one to the southwest and 30 seconds later a volley of 6-8 shots from the northwest.

The local locker said they had 75 turned in Friday.

Nice deer! Archery season has been good to my wife and I but firearm season has been slow thus far. I'm sitting in the blind right now waiting for legal light. Good luck to you if you're after a doe today!

Man is he fat! What has he been feeding on, SBMF?

Thank you.
Yeah he didn’t need to pass on those tiny rack genetics.
Many of the hunters here won't shoot the bad genetic deer that need shooting. They might pass 20 bucks to kill the big one. I ask them if they like to use the best bull they can find or a bad genetic bull. Of course i get weird looks from them.

We use to come to Anna and hunt a lease . Opening day of gun season sounded like a war on public land . Killed some big deer there but missed a trophy buck with my muzzle loader . Still don’t know how I missed him ??

I had two tags. I had full intentions of shooting does, and was following four waiting for a better shot when apparently they caught this bucks attention to. He walked out of the trees about forty yards away from me and just stood there.
Our freezers are full of beef and pork so whatever I get will go to the locker and be donated to the food bank. In our area the United Church has a deal that they will pay for the processing if you donate your deer.

Some friends and former CT members were talking with me yesterday about the deer limits in south Georgia and south Alabama. Not sure how many bucks but 1 doe per day is allowed there. Season ends there the last of February i think.

Here it is a 10 day season for one buck and a draw to get a tag. The city people and city raised fish and game employees like the idea of having more predators than hunters.

I haven't found a good recipe for antlers yet.

Doe seem to better eating here. The bigger and older the buck here the more it tastes like cedar and spruce trees.
I can get a cow elk tag every year. I always look for a yearling cow. They are the best ones to eat. The big old bulls can require an axe to cut the gravy.

Google shows 12 deer. 10 does, 2 antler restriction bucks. It shows mid Oct through mid Jan with some extensions in to Feb in certain counties.

That's not that much different than us, it's just framed up a little different. I hear we are headed in a simular direction.

Va west of Blue Ridge... 5 total, 2 antlered, 3 antlerless... does any day this year, not just on specified "doe days" like in the past.
Farmers, landowners etc can get special kill permits, and there is no limit except what is issued... for private land. With the deer damage we had in the corn, we had 30 "kill permits for the farm this year. Last year was 15.
East of the Blue Ridge and some other counties have other restrictions/exceptions.

Ga season opens with Archery Sept 13th and Gun season starts on oct 11. Season ends Jan15th, except in about 6 south Ga counties where it ends Jan 18th. Bag limit is 12 per season, statewide. No more than 10 may be antlerless and no more than 2 may be antlered. One of the 2 antlered deer must have at least 4 points, one inch or longer, on one side of the antlers or at least a 15-inch outside spread .

They say you can't actually change the genetics on free range deer long term. You can effect what is breeding and eating in the short term when you remove an inferior animal. That can be pretty advantageous if you are supplementing, have limited resources, or if those inferior deer get dominant in areas.

From what I have been told tpw has a way they calculate holding capacities of the total deer herd in each area. Then they are also trying to balance the buck to doe ratio. Most places that have any kind of hunting pressure are out wack from years of harvesting mainly bucks. It was hard to understand the impacts of that early on but now we know it's not good.

Our draw system only allows you to hunt in the area you draw in. The area I live in it is about 3 years between drawing a tag. There is a point system. They do have landowner preference tags (LOP). But they aren't 100%. Something to do with the total number of tags issued in the area. They are only good for the normal short season and one tag per person. They are only good for hunting on your own property. And they are based on the number of acres you own. You have to have at least 160 acres to get one tag. I have over 1,200 acres so I am eligible for 3 tags (that would be one for me, one for my son, and one for a third person).
