I've heard about the program that the AHA has started, promoting AI bulls that you don't need a certificate to register the progeny. Anybody know where I can find a copy of this list of bulls? I've been scouring the AHA website for the last half hour and can't seem to find anything.

thanks,

The AHA site is not very user friendly, anyone else agree?
I wish the Jr. site was better too.

We had a thread going a few days ago about cert vs non-certs. Couple of folks said they could find bulls without a problem. After searching the internet for a couple of hours I found 4, one by a google search and Reed has 3. No one else could provide info on the ones the found easily.

Maybe we should just start listing the ones that we've found here! If there is enough interest, I would be willing to develop a web-site page that listed them as well.

Here is one that I know of:

DM ONLINE 439 (P42561481) Semen $45 a straw, no cert needed.

He's the one I found with a google, 3 straw min. @ $45 per straw.

Have you tried contacting the Hereford Association? They may have a list available?

But they may be leaving up to the individual breeders to promote their own bulls. The breed association shouldn't be seen as promoting one program above another, even to benefit some members.

I think that's the problem, frankie. The AHA's "bread and butter" is the breeders that are still on the old program and any special promotion of this program would be viewed as favoritism. What I'd like to see them do is provide a category in their online semen catalogs for the non-cert bulls. Then urge those breeders that have bulls in the program to advertise them there. I believe the cost is very reasonable.

This is in line with what I would have expected of the AHA. I wouldn't ask that the AHA "promote" the non cert program any more than the regular AI/cert program, just that they give it the same consideration by putting a list in with the rest of the semen catalogs. JMO

Alan,

I noticed your thread on this topic the other day and was following along. That is what prompted me to ask where these non cert bulls could be found. By the way, if you don't mind, what were the 3 bulls you found on Reeds site that qualified?

thanks,

the list should be on the website soon after the first of the year.

Here you go, I would also like to see others that are currently in the program.

Feltons 621 $30 per straw

Grandview 7Oaks Sonora 145R $50 per straw

TH 707B Security 4J ET $40 per straw

This bull, owned by Holden and Shafer, is $65 a straw(10 straw minimum) and no-charge for certificates.

Web-page with pedigree:

That's a little pricey in my book, but I've been told that he is a favorite among some Line 1 breeders.

I'd have to hone up my technique before I'd feel comfortable using him. I'm resisting using up the rest of my Pure Gold and Achiever semen until I re-learn what I'm doing. I went to AI school 25+ years ago, didn't do AI for 20 years, have been doing a few for 2 years now and I am still rusty. Those "eyes" that I used to have on the fingers of my left hand have disappeared.

Not to hijack, BUt I saw that Reed list KCF Bennett 30008 M326 as $40 per straw on the main site, but has him as $20 on their PDF file. And the Owners and the AHA have him at $20.

Again not to hijack, I still haven't seen any bulls that are non cert other then the 3 I listed and one I googled. I'm sure there has to be more.

Alan

m326 is $40 a straw, I am sure.

Another bull is SHF reality, he was in the past years AI sires book. He is $20 a straw no certs, I think those numbers are right though I will have to check.

I just bought some M326 from SandHill Farms at their list price of $20.

http://www.sandhillfarms.com/bennett.htm

This is not to be disrepectful to Reed in the least, I'm sure it is just a typo or some other mistake that has not been caught yet, so again, no disrespect intended.

The following is a pdf file, M326 is on pg 8.

http://www.reedent.com/reedent/brochure ... ochure.pdf

Reeds internet page KCF Bennet is listed at $40.
http://www.reedent.com/reedent/reedindex.htm

I believe the current price is $20, like I said I just bought some at $20, although I would not be a bit surprised to see it go up.

Thanks! A word of advisement to all. The "Animal is Non-Certificate AI Sire" option does not currently show unless you are actually logged in to the AHA site as an authorized user.

I had not actually logged in for a while and did not know that this selection option existed in the "enhanced" mode! I wish they would make it an option in the regular EPD search, so all could use it.

George

I thought that it had already changed. Guess not, it will be changing soon from what I understand. Maybe I am completly wrong.
