I think this years weather has been the nicest for calving I've ever saw...
After last years Winter from Hell- Old Ma Nature owed us !

My tagalong while walking thru the cows this morning...
Do I look like a Herdbull? 81 lb bull calf out of a Cole Creek Juanada Lad 81T X Basin Max 104J cow... If I get to stay a bull- we will have to DNA to find "Who's my Daddy"...

Last year with all the snow and storms- I ran out of straw- so bought some extra this year- and this year it may get used mostly as feed..Cows really love it when you roll out some wheat hay on it...

Cows are seeming to like the year old crested wheat/alfalfa hay better than they did last year when it was new..

Even W likes the crested hay- a 68lb heifer calf out of a Whitney Creek Bannon 730T X Strategy cow...

It's crazy to see the difference from one part of the country to another . I'm setting on the porch and noticed some common Bermuda and Bahia in the yard with seeds already . If it would stay dry for a week I could cut hay .

Well, good to hear someone is having the nice calving weather, the last week hear has been miserable.. . Monday was 5" of wet snow coming down sideways, tues, wed, thursday were rain and 40+MPH winds, my corrals are a total soup and I just had them cleaned last week (luckily). Today was a bit better, hope it smartens up and gets dry, 3" of rain sure isn't nice weather to be born in (I was actually born in a 100 year storm, inside though). Hope your season continues to go well, they look pretty nice!

Yeah- in the last couple of weeks we have broken several high temperature records- including some that dated back to 1893...

Supposed to be about 65 here today- but there is a cold front moving in today that will bring a couple of days with highs in the 40's- and supposedly some rain.... The changing barometric pressure may kick these old mommas into gear again..
Officially supposed to start calving yesterday- but have about a dozen calves on the ground so far- and all but 1 are bull calves.. :D

I wonder where our weather has been going? It has been headed east when last seen. March came in like a lion and is still roaring through. If it is going to go out like a lamb someone better be herding sheep in here real soon. Snow, rain, hail, wind. The storms have been rolling in off the north Pacific one after another all month. My place is a sloopy muddy mess and the mud is covered with standing water. I haven't been losing calves but I feel sorry for everyone born in this weather.

 The weather this month has been terrible, snowing again this morning, it'll melt off by noon, but as you said one storm after another so far. Last year was not much better, I really don't want to push my calving season back a month, but like you I hate seeing newborns following mom around through all this mud and standing water, searching for little or no grass. I'm ready to start mowing the lawn.

Weather has been great here, also. A couple of little snowstorms, but 30-40 degrees above normal temps. I checked cows last night at 9 pm. It was still 74 degrees, I was wearing a T-shirt.

Normally we would have a foot of snow, ice, mud combination, temps in teens at night, and a little above freezing during the day.

I better not speak too soon, but the weather here smartened up a bit, I don't mind it being a few degrees below freezing at all, at least I can walk through the corrals and not need hip waders, and the calves stay clean... last week was just one of those weeks I guess. I'm not asking for record breaking warm spells, just stuff I can deal with

Really nice herd there Oldtimer. I like the consistant thickness and length that they exhibit.

The weather has been unreal here. We have been in the low to mid 80's for several days. I think it is supposed to be 85 again today. It hasn't been raining too much and there has been plenty of sun. The grass is growing like crazy right now. I started calving Sunday and the eather has been clear and dry but warmer than I like for the cows sake. Thay have not shed their winter coats so the heat is tough right now. They are standing in the pond cooling down cause the leaves aren't out yet on the trees and shade is minimal.
